Depression is a mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest. Also called major depressive disorder or clinical depression. It affects how you feel, think and behave. Depression can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems.
- You may have trouble doing normal day-to-day activities.
- sometimes you may feel as if life isn’t worth living.
- you have no interest in things that used to please or amuse you.
- your sex drive most often dramatically decreases but sometimes depression does the opposite.
Depression is more than just a bout of the blues.
You might believe you are “weak” or “lazy” and need to simply “snap out” of it, but you can’t.
Depression may require treatment that is usually a combination of medication, psychotherapy or both.
